Valley House XAs an alternate design to Valley House Y, Valley House X is a modified traditional courtyard house scheme where the proposal uses a doubled version of passive solar design principles. By elongating the floor plan along the east and west direction, while shading the south walls during the summer, the main house allows warming sun into protected spaces in the winter, while shading them from high and direct summer sun. Casual yard space, dominated by a large existing cottonwood, is complemented by a partially shaded courtyard - a delight that is teased upon entry and revealed fully through glazed connections with the social areas of the home. |
