Idlewilde AdditionThis renovation and addition has emerged as a Case Study answer to the question - “How can how we maximize the budget to improve the quality of life within a typical 1950's Albuquerque 2BR/1BA 1950's Pueblo-style ranch?” After deciding on the scope with the owner, we transformed the existing den (former garage) into a Master Suite, using a 75sf addition to the front of the residence, and remodeled the kitchen, and expanded sense of space in the social areas. Accessible from the main living area and equipped with built-in storage, entry to the Master Suite is through a sliding solid maple door. The dressing area separates the sleeping space and bathroom. The bathroom, containing separate laundry, utility and water closets, continues the warm language of satin nickel fixtures, maple wood cabinetry, and bright wall surfaces to receive and reflect natural light. Closing an unused side entrance allowed the completion of the U-shaped kitchen, which doubled its functionality. The full backsplash and quartz counters atop new maple cabinetry complement the stainless appliances and hardware, while new recessed lighting enable multiple work centers. On the exterior, weathering steel planters, a complimentary exterior stucco finish, and minimal porch necessities give the addition a subtle curb appeal - a contemporary gesture to the renovated home. |
