Dripline Beergarden

Located just north of Albuquerque’s Downtown, the context of the site is part of the language of Dripline’s design. Surrounded by industrial metal shed-like buildings in their most modest and unassuming form, we followed suit using two complimentary pre-engineered metal buildings to shape the indoor and outdoor space. Positioning the interior volumes on the north end of the site allows for year-round outdoor comfort with southern sun exposure. In the beergarden, an orchard of deciduous trees offers shade in the summer and invites warm winter outdoor afternoons.

The entry sequence from the parking lot carves a canyon between the two sibling building structures, creating protected areas for social interaction while a combination fountain and bench series aligns your view with a north-south axis. The beergarden’s landscaping is casually but intentionally spacious with the combination of table and bench seating with outdoor game areas. This necessary intimacy for outdoor gathering is created through the mix of boundaries of the taproom building, brewery shed, yard wall, and neighboring façade. The overall material palette is raw, yet cheerful, which is enhanced with strategic illumination as nightfall approaches.
