Coordinated Visions IncPre-engineered metal buildings have linear patterns and low slope gable roofs as signature elements of their DNA. A designer can accept these realities in different ways. Some will assume the negative position and add brick, stone or stucco to hide these features. Our approach was different in that it incorporated the signature look and the construction principles of pre-engineered buildings within an expanded language of building skin and water management. Our client came to us with a challenge: “we just had all the parts for a pre-engineered building delivered to our site … and now we need a permit.” This sometimes happens - putting the cart before the horse. We began a masterplan process which would help the owner achieve a vision - use the site and buildings as a starter project to grow into a larger enterprise for the commercial purification of water. Another challenge - the neighborhood design guidelines very strenuously emphasized that metal buildings needed to be predominantly re-surfaced. Our response to this was to synthesize the Coordinated Vision’s mission with a re-skin approach. Taking the realities of this building type as a design basis, our thoughts turned to Water Harvesting as an agent for masterplan development and aesthetic development. |
